CIRCE to showcase its approach to industrial electrification and competitiveness at DS Industry 2026

The technology centre will present solutions in Bilbao that connect industrial processes to the electricity grid and host an Innovation Workshop on electrification, demand management and economic viability.

Decarbonising industry requires coordinated decisions on technology, energy supply and production. With this approach, CIRCE will take part in DS – Decarbonized & Sustainable Industry 2026, the international event taking place from 3 to 5 November at Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC).

During the exhibition and congress on 3 and 4 November, the technology centre will be at Hall 2, Booth D19, showcasing its capabilities to support companies in electrifying and decarbonising their facilities. Its participation will include the Innovation Workshop “End-to-end industrial electrification: from process to grid”, focusing on an integrated approach to this transformation.

From grid to process: technology serving industry

Under the “Grid to Process” concept, CIRCE will present an approach that connects four key areas of decision-making: the electricity grid, process electrification, plant operations and economic viability.

Which technology is best suited to each process? How much electrical capacity does the facility need? How does production planning affect energy costs? Addressing these questions together helps identify opportunities and anticipate constraints before making an investment.

The aim is to support companies across the entire chain, aligning production requirements with the capabilities of the electricity system.

Heat electrification tailored to each process

Electrifying industrial heat requires an assessment of operating conditions, thermal needs and product quality requirements. CIRCE will showcase its expertise in medium- and high-temperature electrification technologies and their integration into industrial processes.

Digital twins and testing before installation make it possible to compare alternatives and assess their performance before deployment. This approach helps define solutions tailored to each plant and evaluate the scope for process flexibility.

Electrical infrastructure and grid integration

Process transformation must be supported by electrical infrastructure capable of meeting new demand. CIRCE’s approach therefore includes the analysis of grid capacity, connection constraints, power quality and the impact of electrification on the electricity supply.

These capabilities are complemented by real-time grid simulation, testing before connection and studies on the integration of on-site generation for self-consumption. This approach connects the plant’s internal infrastructure with the wider electricity system and helps identify technical risks at an early stage.

Demand management to improve economic viability

The competitiveness of an electrified plant also depends on when and how it consumes energy. CIRCE will present its capabilities in energy management systems (EMS) and flexibility strategies to coordinate demand with production requirements.

Shifting consumption to periods of lower energy costs creates opportunities that must be assessed against operational constraints and product quality requirements. To do so, CIRCE combines technical analysis with economic models that account for both capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenditure (OPEX).

This approach allows companies to compare scenarios and explore mechanisms such as flexible grid access, demand response services and energy savings certificates, depending on their applicability to each facility.

Innovation Workshop: end-to-end industrial electrification

As part of its participation in the event, CIRCE will host the Innovation Workshop “End-to-end industrial electrification: from process to grid”.

The session will provide an integrated overview of CIRCE’s successful industrial electrification projects, covering the entire chain: from renewable heat technologies and their integration into industrial processes to internal electrical infrastructure and grid connection.

Controllable loads and demand flexibility will take centre stage as key drivers of economic viability. The workshop will show how decisions on technology, infrastructure and operations influence one another, and how assessing them together helps guide the transformation of industrial plants.

Connecting energy and industry for over 30 years

CIRCE is a private technology centre based in Zaragoza, with more than three decades of experience in energy, sustainability and digitalisation. It works with companies across electricity generation, transmission, distribution and retail, as well as industrial groups, public authorities and technology developers.

Its experience spans energy-intensive sectors including steel, cement, ceramics, chemicals, paper, food and automotive manufacturing, with a track record of participation in more than one hundred European projects.

This combination of electricity system expertise and industrial experience enables CIRCE to address decarbonisation through an approach that brings together efficiency, heat electrification, power electronics, renewables, electrical infrastructure and demand management.
