Description and objectives
The CERNET project will demonstrate Sustainable Bio-Based Value Chains (BBVC) for producing high-value chemicals and ingredients from biogenic gaseous carbon. These emissions, sourced from bio-based industries such as wineries, waste treatment plants, and bioethanol production, will be captured and converted using innovative technologies.
Through 3 demonstrators in Italy, Bulgaria-Slovenia, and Spain, six high-value products will be obtained: L-alanine, protein hydrolysate, L-malic acid, sorbitol, PHA, and ectoine.
Value proposition
- Validate the use of biogenic carbon in high-value applications within the bioeconomy.
- Develop technologies for capturing and converting CO₂ and CH₄ into sustainable products.
- Demonstrate four complete BBVCs from raw material to final use.
- Integrate social, environmental, and economic criteria under the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approach.
- Enable replication of CERNET’s solutions through digital tools and bio-based business models.
