Description and objectives
The SYMBA project aims to develop a new innovative method of industrial symbiosis (IS) replicable in the EU based on regional bio-industrial ecosystems. It will implement an artificial intelligence-based database that suggests innovative regional IS processes to create waste-free value chains, fostering local supply chains, better distribution of economic and social benefits, and higher economic value of final products. SYMBA's approach, aligned with the European Bioeconomy Strategy.
Project Objectives
- Creation and validation of a new industrial symbiosis (IS) methodology in the bio-based sector.
- Identification of criteria to select regional hubs where this methodology can be applied.
- Development of a database based on artificial intelligence that includes monitoring tools, waste relationship matrices, networking functionalities and connection with local and European networks.
Value proposition
SYMBA offers an innovative solution to accelerate the transition toward a circular bioeconomy in Europe, connecting industrial sectors and territories through a replicable methodology of industrial symbiosis.
The project's main added values include:
- Development of an innovative industrial symbiosis methodology tailored to the bio-based sector.
- Creation of an AI-based database to support regional symbiosis processes.
- Promotion of local supply chains to strengthen European autonomy and competitiveness.
- Reduction of environmental impact on soil, water, and air.
- Connection between industry, technology centers, European networks, and citizens to foster collaboration and systemic change.
